Dolls houses are made to scale. This is to enable furniture and accessories to be standard sized enabling any piece to fit any house. There are two standard dolls house scales. The first and still the most common is 1/12th scale and the second is 1/24th scale. This means that in a 1/12th scale dolls house one foot in the real world scales down to one inch. In a 1/24th scale house one foot scales down to half an inch. Although the popularity of 1/24th scale dolls houses is increasing, there are still far fewer suppliers and manufacturers catering for these dolls houses.

1/12th scale can be a good size for a beginner and 1/24th scale sometimes suits the more experienced dolls house collector (who is quickly running out of display space!)
