Dolls House Kit Review: The Kingston from Wood Lane Dolls Houses.

The Kingston Dolls House is an eight roomed Georgian style dolls house with two rooms in the mansard style roof and the option of adding a basement to add a further two rooms. The front door opening splits in two sections and the roof opening is hinged.

This is a flat pack MDF dolls house kit, although some plywood has been used for the doors, windows and mouldings. All parts are pre-cut by the manufacturer; panels have been routed and grooved. Component pieces are pushed out of the flat sheets quite easily before and sanded down before starting work.

The Kingston Dolls House Kit comes with an illustrated instruction booklet guiding you through the construction step by step. We recommend that you check that all the kit parts are present and that you are able to identify them before starting to assemble the dolls house.

Wood Lane Dolls Houses recommend the use of a bradawl (to make holes for the hinges,) a screwdriver, wood glue, woodworking resin and sandpaper during assembly.

The optional basement extension includes a set of removable steps, behind which is an opening front door and a split front opening to the basement itself.

It’s always difficult to estimate the time required to assemble a kit dolls house. It tends to depend on the kit makers level of experience. This is not a beginner’s kit and is definitely not recommended for children. We estimate that a careful worker who is not decorating or lighting the house as they work may complete the house in ten to twelve hours. We recommend that this project is tackled in stages rather than one continuous process. There is a lot of gluing involved and pieces will have to be set to one side to allow them to set. Due to the nature of plywood, this kit may take a little longer to construct than a pure MDF dolls house kit due to fewer slots and grooves being pre-cut.
