Tadpoles Miniatures

My name is Tanis, I started my business named Tadpoles in the year 2000, itself an auspicious date. My Hobby/Business stemmed from a love of miniatures discovered when my son was small, he had longed to play with his sisters dollhouse but she, with that particular tenderness of older sisters, never allowed him to even touch it.

I endeavoured to find him something a little more macho and with that in mind I purchased a shop kit, from then on I became addicted to collecting miniatures and, sadly for him, the shop never even reached my sons Christmas present pile! To avoid the honeyed trap of purchasing more and more houses I decided that to buy and sell was the best way to appreciate the many wonderful items on offer, and it has proved to be even more exciting than mere collecting. I can enjoy fresh beauties daily and then sell them to buy more. Bliss! Seeking out hitherto unseen gems and launching them into the miniature world of professional collecting became a business that, like 'Topsy', has grown and hopefully will continue as more and more skilled artisans join an ever increasing world of miniatures.

'Tadpoles' now sells an eclectic range of 12th scale miniatures collected from and hand crafted by Artisans around the world, these include: Leather bound books from South Africa and detailed fully readable books from Canada and Sweden.

Brought over from the USA is a large range of unique highly individual luggage sets and one of a kind dressed beds, the 'Bespaq' beds are superbly detailed and finished with rich drapes and silks in a sumptuous and exotic style.

'Bespaq' is widely acclaimed as high quality affordable furniture and 'Tadpoles' always has a hand picked selection of pieces available including the famous 'Baby House' hugely popular as a cabinet for displaying 1/144 scale rooms inside.

1/144 scale is growing very popular and Tadpoles now stocks a full range of house kits and furniture, accessories and wallpaper. Fit 6 doll houses on one shelf!

Can you teach a workshop?

I am able to offer the full use of my studio in order to host workshops, I do not charge for the booking of the studio, nor do I charge students.

It is a very spacious studio and can seat 15 to 20 students at any one time, at custom built work tables with plenty of elbow room. It is pleasantly situated within the grounds of my home and next to a courtyard garden with double doors leading out onto the garden. It is available 6 days a week to book any number of workshops, and at any time of the day or evening. Car parking space for students is within easy walking distance. 'Tadpoles' sells from the studio and so I have display cases and cabinets all around the perimeter walls. It has a comfy seating area and plenty of magazines and books for visiting guests. I can accommodate the tutor and a limited number of the students, with full bed, breakfast, and evening meals, and local hostels can provide any other accommodation needed.

My studio is 2 and a half hours away by road from Birmingham NEC and the motorway is less than half a mile from my home.Manchester Airport is approximately 70 miles from the studio, and if you wished to accept the offer of accommodation, and if circumstances permit I would be happy to collect you and your merchandise from the airport. If you have further questions regarding this venture please contact me.
