Palladian Windows

Palladian windows are named after  the Italian designer, Andrea Palladio, who invented this style of windows in the sixteenth century. They are typified by an arch over the top of the central window and narrow panel windows to each side. Palladian windows were often located in staircars, large hallways and atriums, in short in spaces requiring a  lot of light.

Palladian windows can often be seen in public buildings and the homes of wealthy people because glass was expensive during Georgian times. Palladian windows require a lot more glass than regular windows.

Palladian Style was also used to adorn chests and cupboards with columns, mouldings, cornices and pediments, all based on the style of Roman architecture.
