Art Deco Ironwork

The simple clean lines of Art Deco style lent themselves well to iron and metal work. Iron could be shaped, bent and twisted and found on

  • fire places
  • window guards
  • balustrades
  • railings
  • fireplaces
  • lightings
  • tables
  • screens

Wrought Iron

Art Deco wrought iron split into two:-

  • Fin-De-Siecle:- influenced by and found mainly in home interiors. Pieces were fashioned into birds, animals, gazelles, clouds, fountains, sunbursts and other natural forms elongated and stretched gracefully.
  • Architectural style following the lines of machinery and found in aeroplanes and steamships

Edgar Brandt was a prolific iron worker during the Art Deco period. He worked for many hotels and designed for ocean liners but also produced pieces for private homes.

His work included lamps, consoles, radiator covers and grilles
