Art Deco Glass

Art Deco Glass developed and found it’s own distinctive style between 1920 and 1925. There was clear distinction between functional glass and ornamental glass. The rise of modernism saw glass being used increasingly in furniture design and in architecture.

New techniques developed. Look for the following in pieces of glassware for an Art Deco dolls house room setting:-

  • Bubbling
  • Acid etching
  • Smoky tints
  • Muted colours
  • Speckling
  • Oxidising
  • Gilting
  • Frosting

Ornamental objects were typical and popular. These include bottles with stoppers, perfume bottles, vases, urns, covered bowls, boxes, sculptures, cocktail glasses, clock cases, mirror surrounds, desk sets, light fittings and glass panels.

Typical decorative motifs included fruits, flowers and other motifs from nature, classical scenes or characters in classical poses, geometric patterns and sinuous lines,
