20th Century Dolls House Source Material

Although there was no huge shift in lifestyle as the Victorian era ended and the Edwardian era began, the twentieth century encompassed many dynamic trends that fell in and out of fashion relatively quickly.

The Edwardian era was short and Edward himself had no great interest in radically changing society, Decor and furnishings tended to continue where they had left off. On the continent Art Nouveau was blossoming and was the natural successor to the Arts & Crafts movement in Britain. Later Art Deco would spread influencing textiles, colours, furniture, accessories as well as building exteriors. It's importance also spread across the Atlantic to the United States.

The end of the Second World War introduced the idea of the private home being a home for heroes to return to. Hygiene and cleanliness were the order of the day. Kitchens developed during this time and mechanised utensils to aid the domestic chores of the housewife became de rigeur.
